So, I have been using Xubuntu as a guest OS under VMware. I have also suffered the annoyance of a scrollwheel mouse that hasn’t been so scroll like. I found a nice artical on exactly how to get the wheel scrolling again. http://www.electrictoolbox.com/enable-mouse-wheel-scrolling-kubuntu-vmware/ .
Only thing I would add is to remember to backup you xrog.conf file before modifying it. like so in a terminal.
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old
thanks Chris Hope
The Link Scanner is called AVG Safe Search in the Firefox/Tools/Add-Ons menu. You will undoubtedly find the the AVG safe Search add-on offers the ability for you to disable it but not uninstall it. This is not good behavior IMHO. So how do we toss AVG Safe Search from FireFox?
One of two ways
#1 save the AVG Free installation file directly to disk C:\
* open menu Start -> Run
* type:
c:\avg_free_stf_*.exe /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch
*The installation will be started, and AVG will be installed without the LinkScanner component.
#2
* open menu Start -> Run
* type:
regedit
* navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions
* find key labled:
{3f963a5b-e555-4543-90e2-c3908898db71}
* delete it.
-OR-
Just download and run this avg-firefox-safesearch-removal.reg file.
DONE! AVG Safe Search is now gone from FireFox, and I am now happy. Hope it was useful for you.

The default xp theme includes a nifty unified back/foward/history button that I like. If you like it and miss it there is a way to get it under linux.
Copy the clasic.jar from a windows FF3 install. It’s located in FF3 chrome folder.
Note :You might want to backup the linux originals first.
Then place it in your ‘/usr/lib/firefox-3.0/chrome/’ directiory in ubuntu. Remember to restart FireFox.
If you don’t have access to a windows box download here
O.K mozilla it’s after 3:00 am. Where is Firefox 3?
